My Practicum objective is to gain a practical understanding of the skills necessary to become an effective administrator of a small public library system. Of special interest are administrative (non-supervisory) responsibilities, extra-library relationships, and funding a library system with limited local financial support.
Expected outcomes:
- Understanding daily and longer term activities of a director of a small public library system.
- A working knowledge of the organization’s structure, policies and practices.
- An in-depth understanding of managing relationships between the library system, local government, and the community.
- A completed project of value to both the supervising administrator and the organization. The proposed project: editing and revising the system’s personnel policies manual.
